Library Members can use the in-house Loans Service to borrow and use library material outside its facilities.
Library Members search the material they need in the Library's Online Public Catalogue (OPAC). If the needed material is part of the Library's open-access collection, it can be located on the shelves and be borrowed demonstrating the "Member Identity Card" to the Library Staff at the Loans desk. If the needed material is part of the Library's closed collection, the member provides the Library Staff at the Loans Desk with its citation details and call number (found from the OPAC) and requests it. Demonstration of the "Member Identity Card" is required for borrowing this material.
Other Loans Services are:
- Renewal of the loaning period for borrowed item
- Reservation of an item that is already on loan
-
Interbranch Loan for borrowing items kept in an University of Thessaly Library Branch situated in another Thessalian city. For more info about this Service visit the "Interlibrary Loans" web page.

Overdue Fines
If a library member fails to return the material borrowed by the loan expiration date, an overdue fine is charged. Overdue charges are calculated on a calendar day basis, according to the time period between the normal and the actual return date of the lent material. In the case of recalls the fine period starts two days after an oral or written notice is given to the patron.
For the current academic year the overdue fine is 0.30 € (30 eurocents) per item per calendar day. The library staff collects the overdue charges in cash. Library members who are charged with an overdue fine do not have the right to borrow any other material before the return of the overdue material. In addition, access to all library services is suspended until the overdue charges are paid.
Library staff has no obligation of informing library members who have exceeded their normal loaning period.
