The Archives and Special Collections of the Library and Information Centre of the University include: a) the archival collections of the Historical Archive of the University, b) the Kitsos Makris Folklore Centre special collection, c) the gray literature special collection and d) rare books, maps, photographs and any other rare materials that are part of other collections or can be organised to form a separate collection.
Historical Archive of the University of Thessaly
The University of Thessaly Historical Archive (UTHHA) is a Central Library branch which has as its objective the collection, recording, preservation, organisation, digitisation, promotion and the management of the material of the archival-museum collections owned or to be acquired by the University.
Current archival collections include the personal archive of Kitsos Makris, the archive of the first chairman of the Steering Committee and later Rector of the University of Thessaly Prof. Pantelis Lazaridis, the archive of the Matsaggos tobacco industry, the archive of the Steering Committee of the University of Thessaly and the archive of the former Pedagogical Academy of Lamia. Kitsos Makris Folklore Centre special collection
The collection of the Kitsos Makris Folklore Centre is kept in the centre's building and consists of:
- Museum/exhibition materials: approximately 680 objects, most of which are of folklore interest.
- Books and journals: approximately 4,500 books and 200 journal titles (the books can be found at the Library's Online Catalogue (OPAC))
- Archival material: includes the personal archive, which was organized by Kitsos Makris himself, and other archival material consisting of loose documents, newspapers, photographs, posters, and slides.
